Harvest offers various types of farms with up to 3 different yield sources. In this quick article, you'll learn about their origins, where to track them in the Harvest App, and when to expect the next yield increase in your Portfolio.
On every strategy page, you'll find the Details tab.
This is where you can find the APY Breakdown box, like the following:

Example 2
Harvest strategies automate actions more efficiently than manual methods, leading to higher rates than the original platforms. Below, we recognize the 3 main yield source types you can find in APY Breakdown boxes:
Auto-harvested [token_name] - This means that the strategy automatically claims one or more tokens on the underlying platform for you (oftentimes called rewards/incentives/emissions, etc.) and turns them into more default tokens of the yield strategy (what a default token is, we'll get to it in a moment).
Liquidity provision—You'll find these mostly on 'LP' strategies, where your crypto is used to power token swaps on the underlying platform, yielding pool swap fees in the process.
Extra [Token_name] rewards—When the APY Breakdown explicitly says 'rewards' (on the screenshot above; GENOME rewards), this means that extra rewards are being streamed to the strategy, and to be eligible for them, staking fToken is needed only then.
Auto-harvested [token_name] - The most common yield type is the easiest to track via the following areas:
As explained earlier, the auto-harvested tokens on the underlying platform are turned into more 'default tokens` of the strategy' In this case, that default token is dolomite_USDT
.
Under the 'Manage' tab, you'll also find the performance chart, which illustrates the evolution of your yield originating from Auto-harvested activities:
The green line shows the USD value of your strategy’s underlying token, while the purple line represents the auto-compounded tokens to which you are entitled.
For stablecoin-only strategies, both the green and purple lines should trend upward. In strategies that include assets like ETH or WBTC, the green line will reflect typical market volatility, similar to charts on platforms like Coingecko or Coinmarketcap.
When starting, the performance chart may lack data for a clear display. It’s best to wait 24-72 hours for the chart to show more detailed and clean information.
Tracking yield from liquidity provision in DeFi is complex because the pool’s token values change frequently with each trade, affecting the LP token’s overall value. This makes it challenging to calculate exact gains, even for native platforms like Uniswap, Sushiswap, Curve, or Aerodrome.
So, where can I get any clues about this on Harvest?
In the Total Balance Box under the Manage tab.
The' in USD' label reflects the value appreciation of the underlying LP token. And yes, the 'in USD' also blends the yield originating from the 'Auto-Harvested' activities. Given that the LP token price itself is volatile, it is difficult to distinguish the raw yield originating strictly from Liquidity Provision activities.
Farmers using strategies that rely on Liquidity Provision, especially in non-stable pairs, should keep in mind that tracking precise yield from that activity may be challenging due to the fluctuating value of the LP token.
The yield originating from this activity is straightforward. Staking fToken is needed to be entitled to any additional token rewards, which are often the result of special campaigns with partner networks and projects.
A farmer can claim accrued rewards anytime via the Rewards tab.
Users who are just getting started with Harvest often ask when they start seeing results from using the platform.
Auto-harvested - The yield from this activity is reflected in the user portfolio at every event called 'harvest'. You can get a sense of when the next harvest happens by checking its frequency under the Details tab:
Liquidity Provision - This is constantly reflected by the 'in USD' label in the Total Balance box of a specific farm or the Total Balance label on the My Positions page. Please note that Harvest refreshes token prices approximately once every hour across its product line.
Extra [Token] Rewards - These are streamed every second under the Rewards tab. You can easily see the rewards you are entitled to on the My Positions page, labeled as 'Claimable Rewards' or under the Positions breakdown.
On the My Positions page, you can find the [Full History] button
which leads to a page with the history of activities of your connected wallet with Harvest.
As of October 2024, the history of extra rewards claiming activities is unavailable. We're working on changing this!
